EPAD was invited to make a presentation to the City of Edinburgh Council’s Culture and Sport committee last week. Nicholas Bone (co-director of EPAD) and Saras Feijoo (an artist who has benefited from EPAD support) both spoke to the committee about the project’s impact. WHALE-Arts is a community based arts centre in Wester Hailes which serves the population of South West Edinburgh. They manage a business incubator space called the WHALE-Pod for creative start-up organisations (for more information contact email@example.com).
A number of artists have approached WHALE seeking dedicated studio/workshop space, so they set up an online survey to gauge the interest amongst Edinburgh’s creative community in studio/workshop space in this area. If you are interested in this, please complete the survey here.
International Festival Encounters
EPAD is able to offer TWO half-price places on this year’s International Festival Encounters programme to Edinburgh-based producers and artists. Taking place during the world’s largest international arts festival, the International Festival Encounters programme is run jointly by the Edinburgh International Festival (EIF), the University of Edinburgh and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
This is a great opportunity for any Edinburgh-based producer, programmer, creative artist or performer who wants to develop their artistic entrepreneurship skills and experience to apply to attend this inspiring five-day programme for half the full cost.
Over the five days of the programme, you will immerse yourself in events running at the EIF, engage and network with inspiring artists, directors and producers, and share and reflect critically on your own and others’ artistic practice.
A highlight of the programme will be a series of encounters with leading figures in the arts, including the Edinburgh International Festival Director, Fergus Linehan.
Every element of the programme is tailored towards enabling you to develop the knowledge and skills required to engage with your practice at a higher level.
Participation includes tickets to key EIF events and moderated discussions. There will also be opportunities for participants to present their personal vision in the presence of visiting professionals.
This opportunity is offered jointly by EPAD and EIF.
International Festival Encounters takes place from 19th – 23rd August 2016. Two subsidised places are available at a cost of £225 each – half the normal price. To apply, please send a CV and explain what you hope to achieve through participation in the programme, with particular reference to your work in Edinburgh. You must live in Edinburgh (by which we mean within the EH postcode area) to be eligible to apply for a half-price place.
Please send your application to firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on Friday 8th July. We will notify you of the outcome by Friday 15th July.
In August, the Edinburgh Fringe Society will be running a number of industry events as part of the Fringe Central programme. Some of these are open to any artists/producers/promoters regardless of whether or not you have a show in the Fringe.
